Edward ‘Ed’ John Allen

May 20, 1928 – March 23, 2012

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date for Edward “Ed” John Allen of Basin. Ed, 83, died March 23 at Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home.

He was born May 20, 1928, in Albion, N.Y., the son of John Dewey and Elizabeth Wakeman Allen. He grew up in the Albion/Holley area. He received his schooling and graduated from high school in Holley.

He married Lorrraine Smalley Jan. 31, 1948, in Holley.

Ed owned a dairy farm in New York for several years before moving to Florida where he worked for several years in the field of hydro-mulching (planting seeds to prevent erosion on sides of highways after construction). He also owned a landscaping company.

Due to health problems Ed was forced to semi-retire and moved to Basin in 1995 where he worked for Big Horn Co-op until his health forced him to fully retire.

Ed loved and enjoyed spending time with his family.

His parents, a sister, son Ed Allen and grandson Zebulon Richenberg preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine Allen of Basin; daughter Linda Sanders, also of Basin; son Robert Allen of New York; his sister Ann McKelvey in Virginia; two grandchildren, Sherry Williamson of Basin and Greg Allen of New Market, Tenn., and four great-grandsons.
