Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, two Giving Trees, Christmas baskets, donations to the food shelves at the Community Outreach. Take your pick. There are many ways you can share the “reason for the season” in the community this year.
The Salvation Army will have the familiar “black kettle” on the lawn at the Herb Asp Community Center Saturday, Dec. 1. According to a spokesman, there were more requests for help last year, so funds were nearly depleted.
All money collected goes into the Greybull Unit and is used locally to help meet the needs of people who have fallen on hard times. Needs might include gas, bus tickets, food, clothing, prescriptions, or other emergencies.
Donations can be dropped into the kettle Saturday or checks can be sent to: Greybull Salvation Army, Box 495, Greybull, WY 82426, or left with Kathy Smith at Greybull Town Hall.
The Giving Tree at Bank of Greybull is up and has 72 “ornaments” on it, with the names of 64 Wyoming Retirement residents and eight residents at Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home, along with suggestions for gifts.
Pick a tag(s), purchase a gift, wrap it, place the tag on it and return it to Bank of Greybull. Gifts for those at Bonnie Bluejacket’s must be back under the tree by Dec. 13.
The second giving tree, at ShopKo, should be in place later this week. In addition to WRC and BBMNH residents, the tree will include names provided of senior citizens, who are either homebound or living alone.
The deadlines for returning the gifts to BBMNH residents is Dec. 13. Gifts for residents at the WRC must be back under the tree(s) by Dec. 19.
Big Horn Federal is accepting donations for the Christmas Basket program sponsored by the Greybull Elks Lodge with help from Ron’s Food Farm.
Included in the baskets will be all the makings for a complete holiday dinner, from meat to dessert. Checks can be made payable to: Christmas Baskets and sent in c/o Big Horn Federal, 33 N. Sixth St., Greybull WY 82426 or drop them off at Big Horn Federal.
