Longtime Greybull, Wyo., resident, Barbara Nanita Rech, age 82, passed away at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin, Wyo., with her family at her side on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014.
Barbara was born in Helena, Mont., on Dec. 18, 1931, to Dorman Schaeffer and Sibyl Ann Sherlock Schaeffer Stout. She lived her first five years in Helena. She moved to Lewistown, Mont. in 1936 where she attended school through the 10th grade. In 1948 she moved to Billings and finished her senior yer at Billings Senior High School in 1949. She loved music, was a member of the high school choir and a majorette. She attended Eastern Montana College and transferred to Montana State College in Bozeman, Mont. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.
She met her husband, Ed Rech, when she sang for his fraternity. She also sang several solos for the sorority and sang in the MSC choir.
Barbara married Ed Rech in 1952, in Billings. To this union were born Jake, Jock and Julie.
Barbara continued her love of music as a member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Basin, Wyo., and was instrumental in finding a pipe organ that is now installed in St. Andrew’s. She also sang as a soloist for community events and was a member of the Greybull Can-Can Girls.
Barbara was a member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter F in Greybull. She formed the Canyon Cavaliers precision horse drill team. She enjoyed socializing with the Shell Women’s Club and loved participating in hippo (horse) therapy at Body and Spirit.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jock Rech.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ed Rech of Greybull; her son Jake Rech of Taipei, Taiwan; her daughter Julie Rech of Thornton, Colo., and her sister, Patricia Knopp of Seattle, Wash.
Viewing was on Monday, Aug. 11 at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull.
The graveside service was at the Odessa Cemetery east of Shell on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed the service at the Odessa Cemetery and a luncheon was held at the Shell Community Hall. A memorial service was held at the Wyoming Retirement Center on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Memorials in Barbara’s name will be received at Bank of Greybull, 601 Greybull Avenue, Greybull, WY 82426 and will benefit the Odessa Cemetery; donors may also give to the charity of their choice.
