A celebration of the life of Jacklyn Ruth Gartner Gilman of Powell was held Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Eagles in Powell. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 8 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City, Mont. Jackie, 73, died Aug. 20.
She was born Nov. 19, 1940, in Sidney, Mont., the daughter of Joseph “Joe” and Mary Kathryn Gartner, the fifth of 10 girls. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1958. After graduation she attended cosmetology school and used this degree for decades. She was also a 44-plus year tax preparer for H&R Block and at one point owned two of her own storefronts.
Jackie married David Gilman of Miles City on April 3, 1963. The couple made their home in Miles City and raised two daughters, Cassie and Ronada. They moved to Powell in 1971.
Jackie was an active member of the Rebekahs and served as the Wyoming president from 2008-09. She also loved to bowl, fish, cook, make candy, can, garden and knit. Her family was extremely important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Kathryn Gartner, one sister, Patricia Denowh of Sidney, three brothers-in-law, Ivan Anderson, Marvin LaMotte and Russ Denowh and a nephew, Shaun Feldman.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, David Gilman, two daughters and sons-in-law, Jack and Cassie Wright of Greybull and Dean and Ronada Angell of Billings, eight sisters, Eva Anderson of Eureka, Mont., Shirley LaMotte of Billings, Margaret Bradley of Sidney, Karen Rogers of Billings, Paula McClain of Havre, Mont., Carla Berg of Sidney, Donnell Olesky of Auburndale, Fla., and Diane Prchal of Billings; two sisters-in-law, Ginny Dean of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dolly Bolejack of Miles City, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Interment was at the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Jackie’s memory can be made to Big Horn Federal. Funds will be split between the Breast Cancer Research Fund and a Rebekah’s scholarship.
