Fourteen men and four women teed off Saturday morning to determine the champions in the gross and net divisions in the annual Midway Golf Club Championships.
There was also an “A” flight winner determined by a net score. In the “A” flight, Lonnie Koch placed first followed by Jeff Probst in second place.
The women’s flight was led by Diane Henry followed very closely by Nan Probst. Diane was the gross winner of the ladies division and Nan was the net champion in that division.
The championship flight was won by Michael McColloch for the second year in a row, followed by Riley Goggins in second and Tom Zierolf in third for the gross title. The net title was won by Chuck Hopkin, followed by Wayne Rea in second and Ryan Lipp in third
While tournament numbers were down, the competition was fierce, according to Eddie Johnson, a member of the club. “The golfers all played hard and the course was set up to challenge them. The course is in the best shape it has been in for the entire summer. Our outside crew and volunteers have it playing extremely well.
“We as a club appreciate all the work that has been done on the course by our personnel and the people that have volunteered their time making it not only look good but extremely fun to play.”
The Ryder Cup Challenge II will be held this weekend. It’ll be the final competitive tournament of the year at Midway. “We have room for more players so get signed up,” encouraged Johnson.
