Have you ever heard of Common Core? Or wondered what it was all about and how it is impacting education in Wyoming? If you answered yes to any of these questions, a meeting on Tuesday night might be just the thing for you.
The Big Horn County School District No. 3 board of trustees has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday, Sept. 23, starting at 7 and lasting no later than 8:30, to address questions about Common Core. The meeting will be held in the GHS auditorium.
Supt. Barry Bryant will open with a presentation. A question-and-answer session will follow. Parents will have an opportunity to look at curriculum materials pertaining to Common Core.
According to the Common Core State Standards Initiative website, state education chiefs and governors in 48 states came together to develop the Common Core, a set of clear college- and career-ready standards for kindergarten through the 12th grade in English, arts/literacy and mathematics.
Today, the website continues, 43 states have voluntarily adopted and are working to implement the standards, which are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to take credit bearing introductory courses in two- and four-year college programs or enter the workforce.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting.
