Longtime Basin resident Margaret Jane Brown, age 87, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home between Basin and Greybull, Wyoming.
Margaret was born on Nov. 17, 1926, in Frontenac, Kansas to Florence Mae Arkle Fox and William Sylvester Fox. She graduated from high school in Superior, Wyoming, in 1944, and furthered her education at the University of Wyoming where she received an associate’s degree.
Margaret married George A. “Pat” Brown on June 7, 1947, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Margaret was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she served in many roles over the years, including senior warden and as a member of the altar guild. She was also active in the Episcopal Church Women’s Organization, South Big Horn County Hospital Auxiliary where she served as president, was an organizer for community blood drives, a member of the PEO, and was Lilac Queen for volunteerism. In earlier years, she was involved in the Women’s Club and was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader.
Margaret enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, cooking and helping others. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George A. “Pat” Brown, her son, George W. Brown and her son-in-law, Joseph Chomski.
Margaret is survived by her daughters: Charlotte Mary Tesch (Thomas) of McLean, Virginia, Kathleen Brown Chomski of Rockville, Maryland, Patricia Anne Brown of Basin, Wyoming, and Margaret Ellen Staab (Steven A.) of Basin, Wyoming; six grandchildren: Brenden Daniel Staab, Shane Patrick Staab, Adam George Chomski, Bennett Isaac Chomski, Cara Brown Chomski and Gregory William Tesch; and her brothers, Dr. William Fox (Margarete) of Canton, New York, and Dr. Richard Fox of Grand Junction, Colorado.
A viewing was held on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, from 1 – 8 p.m. at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin, Wyoming.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Basin, Wyoming with co-officiants, The Reverend Daphne Grimes and The Reverend David Fox. A luncheon followed the service in Harris Hall at the church.
The graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Greenhill Cemetery in Laramie, Wyoming with the Reverend Dick Naumann officiating. Burial immediately followed the service.
Memorials in Margaret’s name will be received at Security State Bank, Box 531, Basin, WY 82410-0531 and will benefit the PEO Education Fund.
