Funeral services for Jason N. Darby of Otto will be held today (Thursday, Oct. 16) at The Hills, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home in Zanesville, Ohio. Jason, 44, died Oct. 11 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 24, 1970, in Zanesville, the son of Richard N. “Dick” and Sondra “Sonie” Baker Darby. He graduated from West Muskingum High School in 1988 and received his degree in culinary arts from Columbus State Community College. He worked as a chef for many years in prestigious restaurants in Columbus.
Jason was a nature lover. He moved to New Mexico as a hunting and travel guide, and later to Wyoming where he was ranch manager for the Lazy B Bar Cattle Ranch which allowed him to commune with nature, manage his herd of cattle and spend time on the range. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an animal lover. Ranching was not his career but the fulfillment of a life’s dream.
Jason is survived by his parents; his former wife Chanda of Otto; sister and brother-in-law, Dick and Julie Martin of Pickerington, Ohio; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Darren Darby of Worthington, Ohio, and Kurt and Paula Day Darby of Zanesville; nine nieces and nephews; and mentor, friend and advisor, Gene Borre of Otto.
Jason will be laid to rest in the Darby family plot in Zanesville Memorial Park.
