Funeral services for former Basin resident Thomas John Waite of Livingston, Mont., were held Nov. 4 at St. Philip‘s Catholic Church in Basin. Tom, 64, died at his home in Livingston on Oct. 28.
He was born May 10, 1949, in Minneapolis, the son of Frank and Angeline Leclerc Waite. When Tom was 3 years old, due to unfortunate circumstances, he became mentally challenged. He was raised, received his education, and worked in Minneapolis.
In 1975, Tom and his parents moved to Basin where he worked for many years for the Town of Basin. After his father’s death in 2004, Tom and his mother moved to Livingston.
Tom overcame many obstacles. After the death of his mother, Tom lived independently, owned and cared for his home, learned to cook and tended his garden. He was interested in baseball, country music and painting landscapes, which he gave to family and friends. He also enjoyed playing Bingo. He was a gentle, caring, selfless person who always thought of others and how he could help them.
His parents preceded him in death.
Tom is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Curly and Carol Anselment of Anoka, Minn., Pete and Virginia Aguilar of Livingston and John and Donna Murray of Ogilvie, Minn.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Steve and Sherry Waite of Lakeside, Mont. and Larry Waite of Spearfish, S.D.
Burial was in the Donald J. Ruhl Memorial Cemetery in Greybull.
