Greybull High School’s winter sports teams held their first organized practices on Monday.

The season’s arrival came two weeks later than usual, as the Wyoming High School Activities Association moved the start date to the first Monday after Thanksgiving, giving all players and coaches additional time to charge up before they begin their campaigns.

Coach Jim Prather said he has 26 kids, “with the possibility of a couple more” joining soon. There are six seniors, four juniors, nine sophomores and seven freshmen.

The Buffs open the season at the Herder Classic in Glenrock Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13.

Coach Jeff Hunt opened the season with a roster of 23, including four seniors, eight juniors, five sophomores and six freshmen.

The Lady Buffs will also be on the road for their first action of the season, traveling to Wright Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13 for the Coal Miner’s Classic.

The Greybull-Riverside wrestling team will dual Thermopolis on Thursday, Dec. 11 before heading to Powell for tournament action on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13. Coach Mark Sanford has 24 wrestlers to start the season.
