The Funeral Mass for Julio Garay of Greybull will be held Friday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull, with Father Ray Rodriguez as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Donald J. Ruhl Memorial Cemetery in Greybull.
Julio Garay Varela, 78, died at his home in Greybull on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
He was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the son of Francisco Garay Contreras and Manuela Varela Dondiego.
Julio married Juana Vazquez Rodriguez on Dec. 12, 1956, in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Julio was a hard-working man all of his life. When he came to the United States, he kept his citizenship in Mexico and also became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
Gardening was something Julio enjoyed doing all of his life. He enjoyed old Ford pickups, barbecuing, and get-togethers, but the most important thing in his life was family. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them as well as his extended family. He was so proud when his son reached his dream of starting a restaurant in Greybull, Los Gabanes.
Julio was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull.
Julio is survived by his wife, Juana Garay of Greybull; 11 children: Juan, Albertina, Gillermina, Norma Elisa, Oscar, Edgar, Laura, Lupe, Alvaro, Claudia, Obdulio; 41 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and his siblings Miguel Ortiz, Marta Ortiz, Carmen Garay and Lourdes Ortiz.
A viewing will be held today (Thursday, Jan. 29) from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull and on Friday, Jan. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull.
A Vigil will take place at 7 p.m. today (Thursday, Jan. 29) at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull.
