Funeral services for Laura May Brunkow were held Jan. 28 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody. Laura May, 84, died Jan. 23 at the Powell Valley Care Center.
She was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Emblem, the daughter of Laurence and Ida Louise Preis Roehrkasse. She was raised in Emblem and graduated from Greybull High School in 1949, after which she attended Northwest College.
She married Norman Earl Leonard Sr. in 1950. The couple lived in Cody with their children. Laura May worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Co. and was part owner of the Log Cabin Bar.
Her husband died in 1967.
Laura May married Donald W. Brunkow on May 31, 1975. They moved to Sheridan where Laura May worked at the county clerk’s office until she retired in 2005.
The couple moved back to Cody in 2007 to be closer to family.
Laura May enjoyed spending time with her husband, their family and their extended family. She also enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, sewing, crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church and a devoted member of Christ the King Church in Cody.
Her parents; her first husband, Norman Earl Leonard, Sr.; two brothers, Leonard Roehrkasse and Glenn Roehrkasse; one sister, Irene Whitton; and her son, Louis Wayne Leonard, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Donald W. Brunkow of Cody; two daughters and a son-in-law, Chuck and Linda Mallow of Florence, Colo., and Lynette Smith of Cody; her son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Cindy Leonard of Cody; a step-daughter, Leretta Smith of Minnesota; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Internment was at Riverside Cemetery.
