A committal service for Edwin Earl Rickett will be held Friday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount View Cemetery in Basin followed by a memorial service at the First Baptist Church in Basin at 11 a.m. Ed, 90, died April 2 at South Big Horn County Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1924, in Sidney, Mont., the son of David Edward and Susie Louise Schlemben Rickett. He grew up, received his education and graduated from high school in Montana.
Ed served in the United States Army during World War II. He was jumpmaster and glider pilot with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles.
Ed married Isadora Jean Eddy on March 2, 1945, in Wibaux, Mont. They moved to Basin in 1969.
He was a truck driver and salesman for many years before he retired.
Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Scoutmaster for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
His parents, son Scott Rickett on April 19, 1976, sisters Etta and Barbara and brothers Charles and Myrle preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean Rickett of Basin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Anayansi Rickett of Basin and Edwin G. Rickett of Springfield, Ore; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bill and Linda Lou Best of Michigan and Joe and Cheryle Ann Pettigrew of Las Vegas; two brothers, William H. Rickett of Spokane, Wash., and David M. Rickett of Sullivan, Wis.; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A reception for family and friends will follow the memorial service at the First Baptist Church gymnasium.
