Oct. 9, 1927 – April 19, 2015
Funeral services for Doris Irene Werbelow Schmidt will be held Monday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lovell. Doris, 87, died April 19 at North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell.
She was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Emblem. She grew up on the family farm on Emblem Bench where her grandfather Herman Werbelow was one of the early settlers. She attended elementary school in Emblem and high school in Greybull, where she met Emil Schmidt of Lovell. They were married Dec. 12, 1946, in Billings, Mont., and lived on the family farm south of Lovell. A few years later they purchased their home on Seventh Street where Doris resided until her death.
Doris was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Much of her time was spent making her children’s clothes. She loved the outdoors, gardening, assembling rock gardens and growing flowers.
Whether it was picking wild seed or sweet corn, or hunting rocks, Doris could outwork everyone and enjoy every minute of it. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and tending her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All the children loved to visit “Grandma Dori.”
She was an example of selfless service and Christ-like love and was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her husband Emil, her parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded Doris in death.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Cindi Schmidt of Castle Rock, Colo., and Ronald and Marlene Schmidt of Lovell; daughter and son-in-law, Charles and Amy Hessenthaler of Byron; four brothers, four sisters, 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
