Funeral services for Laura Ella Jones of Basin were held April 21 at the First Baptist Church in Basin. Laura, 91, died April 18 at the Billings (Mont.) Clinic.
She was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Grimes, Roger Mills County, Okla., the daughter of John Joseph and Ina Viola Williams Mong. She grew up in Oklahoma and received her schooling at the Meridian School. She lived in California, Nevada and Montana before moving to Basin to make her home.
Laura married Garland Eugene Jones in April 1981 at Basin. She worked as a nurse’s aide for 13 years, first at the Wyoming Retirement Center and then at Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home.
Her entire life was centered on raising her family and keeping her home in order. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, embroidering, latch hooking, and later in life, traveling. She enjoyed being with her family.
Laura was a member of the First Baptist Church in Basin.
Her parents, John and Ina Mong; two sisters, Ina Lancaster and Joan Scott; one brother, Joe Mong, and her great-grandson, Joe Odom, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband Garland Jones of Basin; her children and their spouses: Joe and Glenda Odom of Riverton; J.B. and Ann Usrey of Abilene, Texas, Gerald and Laura Joy of Amarillo, Texas, Edwin and Susan Odom of Moscow, Idaho, Brian and Tana Haines of Dear Lodge, Mont., and Jim and Marti Rannells of Basin; one sister, Vera Burckhalter of Sweetwater, Okla.; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Donations in Laura’s name can be sent to Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, Box 471, Greybull, WY 82426. Proceeds will go to the Basin First Baptist Church Youth Group.
