Construction of the new middle school is on schedule and the school district’s maintenance supervisor said the goal remains to start moving in around July 1.
“I’d say that to this point, things have gone even better than expected,” said Joe Forcella, who along with Supt. Barry Bryant has overseen the project for the district. “Sletten and all the subs have been great to work with.”
As this week began, workers were in the finishing phase, focusing on flooring, the grid for the ceiling and cabinetry, among other things.
The contract for the school calls for “substantial completion” to be reached by July 1.
Forcella said some items from the current middle school are already being stored in the GMS Gym. Much more will be moved in there in the weeks ahead, as the school year wraps up and the transformation of the current middle school into a central office begins.
After July 1, the push will be to get everything into the new building. From there, it’ll be up to the teachers and other staff to tailor their rooms to their needs. The first day of school is Aug. 20.
