A memorial service for Douglas “Doug” Gene McKinnon of Billings, Mont., was held May 26 in Billings. Doug, 45, died of cancer, May 19, at his home in Billings.
He was born Aug. 4, 1969, in Evanston, the son of Scott and Vickie Steedley McKinnon. He was raised and received his education in Burlington, where he lived with his grandparents and mother Vickie. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1987.
Douglas attended Northwest College in Powell before transferring to Sheridan College where he received his certificate in diesel mechanics.
Doug moved to Billings in 1989 where he worked for Toyota and Great Northern Equipment before going to work for Hard Drive Construction in 2007 as a superintendent; he was later certified as a Traffic Control Superintendent. Doug later drove truck for JEM before returning to work for Studer Construction.
Doug and his grandfather Dick Steedley raised bucking bulls for rodeos. He loved being outdoors; hunting and fishing were his passion.
A kind and gentle man, Doug was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Brown; grandfather Dick Steedley and grandparents Ralph and Rita McKinnon.
He is survived by his daughters, Bailly Burbank McKinnon and Shaye Burbank McKinnon of Billings; stepson Justin Benthan in Germany; stepdaughter Brittany Bentham of Billings; his mother, Vickie Steedley of Meeteetse; father Scott McKinnon of Dechesne, Utah; grandmother Glea Steedley of Billings; three sisters, Aimee Binning of Laramie, Michelle Seeley of Campbell, N.Y., Karrie Sue McKinnon of Park City, Utah, and three brothers, Steve Brown of Greybull, Chris Twomey of Buffalo, and Shon McKinnon of Altamont, Utah.
