Haller resigns, creates vacancy on board

Want to serve on the school board? With the resignation of Dave Haller, there is now an open seat on the Big Horn County School District No. 3 board of trustees.

During a special meeting Thursday night, the board accepted Haller’s resignation and agreed to seek letters of interest from people who would like to step in and serve until the next school board election, which takes place in November of 2016.

Haller, a longtime WYDOT employee, served on the school board for 14 years, stepped away for a few years, then ran for and won another term in the most recent general election. His resignation came six months into his four-year term. Dave and his wife Darla, who retired this year from her job teaching music in the district, are moving to Cody.

If you are interested in the vacant seat, submit a letter of interest as soon as possible and no later than Friday, June 19 in which you explain a little about yourself and your interest in serving on the board to: Barry Bryant, Supt.; Big Horn County School District No. 3; 636 14th Ave. N., Greybull, WY, 82426.

In other news from Thursday’s meeting:

  • The board accepted the resignation of middle school track coach Renae Waddell. She will continue to teach in the district. Also accepted was the resignation of Sam Smith, a bus driver. He has agreed to stay on through the end of summer school.
  • The board continued the process of buying furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new middle school, agreeing to the purchase of $32,382 in office furnishings from National Business Furniture, the only bidder.

Supt. Barry Bryant provided a brief update on the project, telling the board that the school should be done around June 15. Assuming a two-week period of cleanup and punch-list work, the district hopes to start moving in around July 1.

After the meeting, Bryant led board members on a tour of the new school and the GMS Gym, where the gym got new ductwork and where the back room, the one farthest to the west, is being converted into a computer lab.
