Lorraine Mae Nott Getzfreid

Aug. 8, 1921 – June 3, 2015

Funeral services for Lorraine Mae Nott Getzfreid were held June 9 at the First Baptist Church in Basin. Lorraine, 93, died June 3 at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin.

Lorraine was born Aug. 8, 1921, on a farm at Neligh, Neb., the daughter of Roscoe and Mary Kelly Nott. She was the seventh of nine children and the only girl.

Her parents moved to Belfry, Mont., and Lorraine followed them there when she was 19, obtaining a job as a cook on a ranch. She worked seven days a week, for $30 per month. One time she took a day off to visit and spend the night with her parents and when she returned the following afternoon, she was docked a dollar.

She married Harry Getzfreid, whom she met at a Saturday night dance where he was playing his accordion, on March 4, 1943, in Billings, Mont., and they lived on a farm just outside of Bridger. Their son Bob was born in 1944 and their daughter Judy in 1948.

They purchased a small farm in the Burlington area in 1950 and lived there for about eight years. In 1958 they moved to Basin.

Lorraine went to work in the IGA store and worked there for 31 years. She retired in December 1991. She loved the job, her co-workers and visiting with all the people. She was never idle. After working all day she would go home and garden, make candy or crochet. She was well-known for her crocheted jelly bean ducks, doilies, pot holders, afghans and homemade candy.

At Christmastime, Lorraine sold lots of items at craft fairs and from her home. She and her best friend, Betty Riley, another “crafter,” would share yarns and supplies, help each other, and sometimes each made the same items. They were good neighbors and Lorraine still reminisced and missed her good friends and family of yester-year.

She was very unselfish and never wanted to impose on anyone. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, faithful sister and a true friend. She set an excellent example of how we should treat family, friends and neighbors.

Her parents, Roscoe H. and Mary Kelley Nott; her brothers, Harold, Lyle, Ivan, Roy, Wayne, George, Donald and Clifford; her husband, Harry Getzfreid; her grandson Dave Getzfreid and her great-grandson, Wes Ridgway, preceded her in death.

Lorraine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Doris Getzfreid and her daughter and son-in-law, Judy K. and Larry Jordan, all of Greybull; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
