Audrey Collins Kelso

Nov. 29, 1928 – July 10, 2015

Longtime Emblem, Wyoming resident, Audrey Collins Kelso, age 86, passed away Friday night, July 10, 2015 at the West Park Hospital Long Term Care Center in Cody, Wyoming.

Audrey was born November 29, 1928 at Watertown, South Dakota to Floyd Foss Collins, a County Extension Agent, and Effie Christine (Stenning) Collins. Audrey grew up in South Dakota and graduated from Belle Fourche High School. She furthered her education at South Dakota State in Brookings, South Dakota and received her bachelor’s degree in home economics. Audrey went on to Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan and received her master’s degree in clothing construction. She then began her career in teaching which never ended, teaching high school in Hoquiam, Washington and serving as the Big Horn County Home Demonstration Agent and teaching sewing. After marrying in 1960 and moving to Emblem, she was a true partner in all aspects of the farming operation and continued to teach sewing in 4-H and judged at County Fairs throughout the Big Horn Basin.

Audrey gave of herself in helping and teaching others. She enjoyed reading, especially mysteries, and enjoyed traveling and genealogy. Audrey collected stamps and coins. She loved cooking and gardening and was an excellent cook, keeping the home filled with canned goods from the garden. She was a member of the Emblem Community Club and the Park County Genealogical Society.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Effie Collins; an infant brother, Bruce Collins; and her older brother, Robert Keith Collins.

Audrey is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James Kelso of Emblem, Wyoming; her sons, Michael and wife, Gretchen Gasvoda-Kelso of Emblem, Wyoming and George Kelso of Emblem, Wyoming; 4 grandchildren, Bryce Kelso, Colin Kelso, Haden Kelso, and Dasha Kelso, all of Emblem, Wyoming; her brother, Harlan (Lois) Collins of Vancouver, Washington; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Collins of Billings, Montana, and nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull, Wyoming from Noon – 7:00 P.M. and on Saturday, July 18, 2015 a half hour prior to the funeral service at the Emblem Gym in Emblem, Wyoming from 9:30 A.M. – 10:00 a.m.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Emblem Gym in Emblem, Wyoming at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Karen McRae of the Cody United Methodist Church as officiant. Burial will follow in the Emblem Cemetery at Emblem, Wyoming. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the graveside service at the Emblem Gym in Emblem, Wyoming.

Memorials in Audrey’s name will be received at Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 471, Greybull, WY 82426 with proceeds to benefit the Wyoming 4-H Foundation.
