Funeral services for Lawrence “Larry” Werner will be held Thursday, July 23 at 2 p.m. at Atwood Family Chapel in Basin. Larry, 86, died July 18 at Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Paradise, Grant County, N.D., the son of Fred and Rose Bauer Werner. He grew up in North Dakota, received his schooling at the Cedar Butte County School and graduated from Elgin High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in education at Dickinson State Teacher’s College.
Larry served in the United States Army from 1950-1952. He married Donna Sagmiller Dec. 26, 1953, in Mandan, N.D.
The Werners moved to the Big Horn Basin area in 1962. He taught high school business in Bridger, Mont., and then in Basin for many years. He retired from teaching but came out of retirement to work for the Big Horn Co-op in Greybull. He later worked for the Wyoming Highway Department for several years.
Larry enjoyed gardening and raising animals.
Larry’s parents and his nine siblings preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna Werner of Basin; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Timothy and Teresa Werner of Worland, Peter Werner of Casper, Fred and Jennifer Werner of Basin, and Larry and Terri Werner of Greeley, Colo.; his daughter and son-in-law, Jake and Cindy Jacob of Gillette, and nine grandchildren.
Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery; a luncheon for family and friends will follow at Eagles Aerie 3086 in Basin.
