Graveside funeral services for Velma May Johnston will be held Friday, Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Mount View Cemetery in Basin. Velma, 89, died Aug. 15 in Billings, Mont.
She was born April 27, 1926, at the Kershner homestead in Shell, the daughter of Irvin and Maude Kershner Davis. She graduated from Greybull High School.
Velma married Robert L. Johnston on Aug. 27, 1947; the couple moved to Thermopolis.
Velma ran the soda fountain in the Corner Drug Store and The Ice Cream Parlor for a number of years; she also worked at the high school cafeteria for a short time.
She was known for the delicious pies she baked.
Velma served as the treasurer and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for several years.
She loved flowers, gardening, her children, grand- and great-grandchildren and her great-great-granddaughter.
Her parents, Irvin and Maude Davis; her husband Robert Johnston; son Paul Johnston; grandson Bob Johnston; brother Irvie Davis and her sister-in-law Trina Davis preceded her in death.
Velma is survived by her son Tim Johnston of Worden, Mont.; daughter Janet Currey of Billings; daughter-in-law Bobbie Johnston of Cody; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
