John (Jack) Raymond Miller

January 30, 1948 – September 12, 2015

Longtime Burlington, Wyoming resident, John Raymond Miller, age 67, passed away at his home in Burlington, Wyoming on Saturday, September 12, 2015.

John was born January 30, 1948 in Cody, Wyoming to Raymond (Slim) Miller and Patrecia Burns Miller. John grew up on a farm south of Burlington and then the family moved into the Town of Burlington. He received his schooling in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School.

In 1959 Patrecia remarried Howard (Lyle) Johnson, and they moved to the farm southeast of the Town of Burlington. Jack learned the art of farming and taking care of livestock and as a teenager went to work for the Schlaf Ranch near Burlington. In his late teens, Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country with pride in Vietnam.

Jack worked in the mines in Arizona after being honorably discharged from the Army and later moved back to the Big Horn Basin area. He worked in the oil fields, sheared sheep, built fences, and was an all-around handyman.

Jack moved back to the family farm and in his last few years helped to care for his mother. Jack’s health started failing due to various illnesses which kept him close to the family farm.

Jack was known for being handy at fixing things and telling stories. He loved to spend time with young people and had a soft spot for horses.

Jack is preceded in death by his father, Raymond (Slim) Miller and by his sister, Carmen Johnson

Jack is survived by his mother, Patrecia Miller Johnson of Burlington, Wyoming; his siblings: Sharon Colleen Britton of Boise, Idaho, Robert Franklin Miller of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Don Jim Miller of Burlington, Wyoming, and Claudia Box of Merritt Island, Florida; his children: Randall Wayne Miller of Basin, Wyoming, Robert William Miller of Burlington, Wyoming (currently serving in the United States Air Force, Washington State), Daniel Scott Miller of Burlington, Wyoming currently serving in the United States Air Force, Germany), and Jennifer Leann Clouse of Greybull, Wyoming; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial graveside will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Meeteetse Cemetery in Meeteetse, Wyoming with full military graveside rites.
