A memorial mass for Althea “Tia” Steele Clear will be held Friday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull. Tia, 93, died Oct. 20 at her home in Greybull.
She was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Waterbury, Conn. She graduated from Watertown High School. She joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and served in the Quarter Master Corps Motor Transport where she drove light trucks. By the time she was honorably discharged in 1946, she has attained the rank of sergeant.
She moved to Illinois where she worked for the US Time. Later she moved to San Diego, attained her Secretarial-Brevitype degree from Kelsey-Jenney College and went to work in the cash office of the Navy Exchange.
Tia married Bernard Clear; the couple had a daughter, Tammy.
Tia eventually was promoted to executive secretary for the manager of the Navy Exchange.
After her retirement, she moved to Wyoming.
Tia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a daily communicant, and volunteered her time as church secretary/bookkeeper.
She enjoyed traveling and visited most of United States and Canada.
Her father Henry, mother Ethel, sister Bernice, and husband Bernard preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter Tammy of the family home; brother Roland of Temecula, Calif.; one niece and two great-nephews.
