Funeral services for Marion Katherine Roehrkasse of Laramie were held Oct. 19 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Marion, 85, died Oct. 14 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
She was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Laurel, Mont., the daughter of Fred Adam and Katherine Schreiner Fichtner. Her father died when Marion was 10 months old, and Marion grew up with her brother Fred in Laurel. Her mother married Edward Doerr and the family moved to Lovell where Marion completed her schooling and later attended the University of Wyoming.
She married Glenn Paul Roehrkasse of Emblem on Sept. 3, 1950. The couple moved to Laramie in 1953 where Glenn started his career at the University of Wyoming. They lived in Ames, Iowa, while her husband obtained his Ph.D. and returned to Laramie in 1963. During her husband’s sabbatical at New Mexico State University in 1982 in Las Cruces, they purchased their “snow-bird” home and spent winters (from 1986-2008) in Las Cruces.
Marion was a homemaker, devoted wife and doting mother who raised her children to love the Lord.
Her interests included playing bridge, Bible studies, church circle, crossword puzzles, cross-stitch, decorating and attending numerous UW functions and activities.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Her husband Glenn, her parents and an infant sister preceded Marion in death.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Mea Roehrkasse of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jay and Glenna Talbott of Laramie and Dale and Paula Reece of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Pauline Fichtner of Sheridan; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
