The Lady Buffs beat Riverside Friday to end the conference season with a 5-3 record, which was good for a second-place tie with Thermopolis.

With some help from the Lady Rebels, who upset Thermopolis Saturday, Greybull goes into the Class 2A West Regional in Lander this weekend as the No. 2 seed from the northwest. The Buffs will share a bracket with Lyman, Riverside and Wind River and will open play at 2:30 p.m. in the Field House versus Wind River.

Shoshoni, Big Piney, Kemmerer and Thermopolis share the second bracket. Lyman and Shoshoni are the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in 2A and are the teams to beat. If the Buffs get by Wind River, they will see just how good Lyman is as they will face off at 9 p.m. Friday evening.

“We know we have to stay focused, continue to work on serving and hitting aggressively and become more efficient in serve receive,” said Coach Sara Schlattmann. “We will be playing some good teams this weekend, but I believe we are positioned well in the bracket.”

The Buffs needed just three sets to beat a much-improved team of Rebels, 25-8, 25-17, 25-13, Friday afternoon in Basin.

Schlattmann said, “This was an important conference match because it would help us secure a second seed into the regional tournament. The girls went out and played aggressively.”

Serving was at 91 percent with Savannah Kober, Bailee Stephens, Madi Kraft and Britney Fink serving 100 percent. Ky Sorensen was at 96 percent, including four aces.

Madi Edeler led the attack with seven kills; Jessica Dowling had five; Fink, four; Dasha Kelso, three; and Jordan Flitner, two; Sorensen and Aftin DeRosa had one kill each.

Schlattmann said as a team the Buffs didn’t pass out of serve receive as good as they could have, at 44 percent. Individually, Kelso passed at a 50 percent clip.

Schlattmann and the Buffs are not going to overlook any team; it will be match-by-match. The goal is to win two before losing two, and to earn a berth in the State 2A Tournament in Casper. But a regional tournament title is not beyond the reach of Schlattmann and the Buffs.
