Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life for Doris Anne Stevens will be held at the Atwood Family Funeral Chapel in Basin, Wyo., at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015. A reception following the memorial service will be held at the home of Destry and Sarah Stevens.

Doris was born in Gary, Ind., on Feb. 18, 1952, to Amos and Betty Davenport. Two and half years later, she was graced with a sister, Betty. She grew up in Terre Haute and went on to attend Indiana Academy, where she received her high school diploma in 1970. It was there that she met Bill Stevens, the father of her two children. They were married on June 25th of 1972. She later attended Southern Adventist University in Chattanooga, Tenn., earning her degree in nursing, which proved to be a lifelong passion. She worked at several hospitals, care homes and nursing homes making lifelong friends along the way. She returned to the Basin area in February and was happily employed at Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home at the time of her passing.

Doris was a devoted mother, and always encouraged her children to follow their dreams. She was blessed with a son, Destry, on April 7, 1975, and then with a daughter, Delana, on Dec. 29, 1981. She was also known as “mom” by many of the local kids that were frequent visitors to the Stevens household.

Mom will be best remembered for her caring, gracious, and generous spirit and the smile that was always on her face. She always took time and a genuine interest in not only her family and friends, but the people that she cared for in her line of work.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Harlow of Lake Worth, Fla.; her ex-husband, Bill Stevens of Sebastian, Fla.; her children, Destry (Sarah) Stevens of Basin, Wyo., Delana Stevens of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Darell Young of Nashville, Tenn., and Kristi Stevens of Basin, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Shawn, Tayla-Jean, Xavier, and Caydence; and her granddog, G.G.
