Lillian M. Zednick Barnett

Funeral services for Lillian M. Zednick Barnett of Lander will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Hudson’s Funeral Home Chapel in Lander. Lillian, 82, died Nov. 2 at Westward Heights Care Center in Lander.

She was born March 12, 1933, in Wilber, Neb., the daughter of Frank A. and Anna B. Shestak Zednick. She graduated from Wilber High School in 1950 and received her teaching degree from Peru State College in Peru, Neb.

She accepted a contract to teach grade school in Greybull, and taught for one year before marrying Wayne F. Barnett on June 12, 1953, in Lincoln, Neb. The couple had a son, Fred Wayne, and daughter, Judy Ann; they were divorced in 1971.

Lillian moved to Chadron, Neb., in 1972; she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1975. In 1976, Lillian moved to Lander and accepted a teaching position at Ft. Washakie Elementary School where she taught for 21 years. She retired in 1997.

Lillian enjoyed her 19 1/2 years on the ranch in Shell Valley and her favorite memories are of moving cattle, raising bum calves and raising a large garden. She also enjoyed traveling with June on annual trips to various places.

When her health declined, Lillian limited her activities; she called friends and family, wrote letters, did puzzles, read and watched TV. Lillian retained a positive attitude, had a great sense of humor and was always kind to others.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Wayne Barnett, with whom she reestablished a friendship in the early 1980s; her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Irene Hines and her husband Pearl.

Lillian is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Jan Barnett of Greybull; daughter and son-in-law, Forrest and Judy Phillips of Lander; two step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.

A second service for Lillian will be held Nov. 21 in Wilber, Neb. Burial will follow in the Wilber Cemetery. Memorials in Lillian’s memory can be made to the Lander Pet Connection, c/o Hudson’s Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Dr., Lander, WY 82520.
