A graveside memorial service for former Greybull resident James John Ogg will be held Monday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at Mount View Cemetery in Basin. James, 94, died Nov. 20 at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
He was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Ten Sleep, the son of George Harper and Elizabeth Mae Grant Ogg, Sr. He grew up in the Washakie County area and received his schooling at the Durkee school in Rairden.
James was a cowboy; he worked on his father’s ranch when he was young, and on many other ranches where he rode horses and tended cows, with his faithful cow dogs by his side. He loved the outdoors and he loved the Big Horn Mountains; he could answer any question you had about them. James also loved to read.
James was a lifetime member of BPOE Lodge 1431 in Greybull.
His parents, three brothers, George Ogg, Jr. Alex Ogg, Jr., and Charles Ogg, and two sisters, Dorothy Nielsen and Marjorie Creech, preceded James in death.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dan and Arlene Griffin of Meeteetse; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Delores Ogg of Greybull; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A reception for family and friends will be held at the Elks Lodge in Greybull immediately following the service.
A memorial has been established at Bank of Greybull, 601 Greybull Ave., Greybull, WY 82426. Proceeds will go to the Elks Scholarship Fund.
