The Greybull Lady Buffs made it four conference wins in a row last week with a sweep of the Lady Blue in Shoshoni, 37-21, Friday and a 25-point victory over the Riverside Lady Rebels in Basin, 58-33, Saturday. The four wins propelled the Buffs to the top of the conference standings heading into the second half of the season.

The Buffs took control of the game in Shoshoni early on and led at the first quarter break 14-4. Tough defense and balanced scoring were the keys to the win.

“We shot the best we have all season long (42 percent) and played a great defense,” and Coach Jeff Hunt. “The girls did a great job keeping Shoshoni out of the paint. We also moved the ball really well on offense and got them out of their rotations in their zones.”

Seven Buffs got into the scoring column led by the nine points put of Savannah Kober. Madi Edeler scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a good performance. Tatem Edeler put seven points on the board and Florina Villegas hit for six.

Fourteen was the magic number for the Buffs in Basin when they took a 14-3 lead over a much-improved team of Lady Rebels. The second and third quarters were almost even as Greybull scored 21 points and Riverside put up 18.

The fourth quarter was all Greybull as the Buffs poured in 23 points while holding the Rebels to 12, to seal the 58-33 victory.

“We did a lot of good things,“ said Coach Hunt. “We dominated the boards and really limited their shots. On offense we really spread things out.” Nine Buffs scored in a balanced scoring attack with Villegas in double digits with 10 points. –“It is always great to see so many players score,” Hunt said. “We were able to get some of our younger players more minutes and they did a great job contributing in every area of the game.”

Nine Buffs were credited with rebounds (M. Edeler had 10), eight with steals (Carlson had nine), and seven had assists (Sorenen had six).

Greybull will be challenged Friday when the Wyoming Indian High School Lady Chiefs come in for games at 4-5:30. Go early and enjoy the Friday Fiesta Taco Dinner sponsored by Lady Buff basketball that will be served in the lunch room during the games.

Saturday begins the second go-round in conference play. The Buffs will host Thermopolis. The Buffs and Bobcats went head-to-head in Thermopolis Jan. 22 and eked out a one-point victory. It should be a great matchup with the Buffs hoping to keep their place on top of the standings and the Bobcats looking for some revenge for the loss on their home court. Game times are 1-2:30 p.m.
