WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. — Charlene Lillian Boland, age 81, of Walnut Creek, Calif., and formerly of Basin, Wyo., was taken to her eternal home on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016.

Charlene was born on Dec. 17, 1934, in Grover, Colo., to Charles (Chuck) Wellman and Freda (Konig) Wellman. She was raised in Colorado and Wyoming and graduated from Cheyenne High.

Charlene met, fell in love with, and married James (Jim) Boland on Sept. 17, 1955, in Cheyenne, Wyo. Not long thereafter, they moved west and began to make their new life in Southern California. By the end of 1960, the addition of three girls completed their family.

Both Charlene and Jim were incredible singers and dancers. It was not uncommon for the house to be resonating with their duets or for them to be showing off their jitterbug moves. Besides being a dedicated wife and mother, Charlene had a long and successful career at Mattel Toys.

Charlene and Jim loved to camp and fish and many family vacations were spent going back to the mountains, lakes and rivers of Wyoming. Charlene retired from her job in 1986, and she and Jim eagerly moved back to Basin where they lived, played, and reveled in the beauty of what Charlene fondly referred to as “God’s Country.” During this time, Charlene perfected her sewing and embroidery skills.

She was a champion dart player and loved playing bingo with her treasured friends at the Eagles Aerie #3086. If she wasn’t camping, fishing, cooking, or playing darts or bingo, Charlene may have been trying her luck on a favorite slot in Riverton or Bridger. In 2014, health issues brought Charlene back to California where she resided with family in Walnut Creek. Although she missed her life in Basin, she delighted in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Freda Wellman; her husband, Jim Boland; and her granddaughter, Mary.

Charlene leaves behind three daughters: Sherrie Kroah and husband, Kris, Shellie Brown, and Suzanne Cranmer and husband Tom; eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Jamie, David, Ernest, Monique, Howard, Maxwell, and Kristin; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Charlene’s immediate family would like to invite those who knew her to a luncheon celebrating her life beginning at 12:00 (Noon) Saturday, March 12 at the Eagles Aerie #3086 in Basin.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, please make donations in Charlene’s name to the American Cancer Society or to your local Hospice organization.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors assisted the family with the arrangements.
