Rose H. Brown passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the South Big Horn County Critical Access Hospital. She was born on Oct. 5, 1915, in Fort Collins, Colo., the sixth child of Phillip and Mary Hartman. In 1916, the family moved to Orchard Bench near Basin, and Rose attended school in Basin and graduated in 1933. After graduation, she worked at Security State Bank in Basin until her marriage to Art Brown in 1942 in Abilene, Texas, while Art was in the Army. After returning to Basin, Rose’s youngest brother, Captain Elmer (Fritz) Hartman, was killed in the service, and Rose spent time in Ontario, Calif., with Elmer’s widow, Marge, and was present when their daughter, Karen was born.

Rose returned to Basin to again work at Security State Bank and when Art returned from Europe, they settled and made their home on Orchard Bench. Rose retired from banking in 1981 and in 1989 they sold their farm and moved to Basin. Rose was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Art, in 2006; her parents; five brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Basin on Monday, April 25, 2016, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund at Security State Bank, Box 531, Basin, WY 82410, and the proceeds will go to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Basin.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors assisted the family with the arrangements.
