A graveside service for Dean Darling will be held Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at the Hyattville Cemetery. Dean, 58, died May 15 while rock climbing in Tongue River Canyon outside of Dayton.
Dean was born Jan. 9, 1958, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Pauline and George Darling, the oldest of four children. He graduated from Midwest High School in 1976, and accepted a wrestling scholarship to Utah State. At the completion of his freshman year, Dean transferred to the University of Wyoming where he competed in bareback riding as a member of the UW rodeo team.
It was at the university that he met Kelly Caines of Hyattville; following their graduation from UW, the couple exchanged wedding vows June 9, 1984, in Hyattville.
Their son, Chanse, was born in 1989 and their daughter Dakota in 1992. The family moved to their current home off the Cold Springs Road in Hyattville in the early 2000s.
Dean was a jack-of-all-trades and held many jobs throughout his life.
His mother, Pauline Marie Baures Darling, and his nephew, Travis Dean Darling, preceded Dean in death..
He is survived by his wife, Kelly; his son and daughter, Chanse and Dakota; his father, George Darling; and his siblings and their families, Mark, Margaret “Nip,” and Hugh.
A lunch will be served at the Hyattville Community Center, 308 S. Main St., immediately following the service.
