Louis Eugene Pennington

Memorial services for Louis Eugene Pennington of Houston, Texas, will be held Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas.

Mr. Pennington, 72, died July 23, in Billings, Mont., from complications of injuries suffered when a cottonwood tree fell on him while he was attending a family reunion picnic at the Medicine Lodge State Archeological site July 5. He fought lymphoma cancer and won, but came down with Guillain-Barre in 2005 which confined him to a wheelchair.

He was born July 31, 1945, in Seattle, Wash., the son of Louis and Faye Pennington. He grew up in Casper and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1961. He learned the art of auto body repair at Wyoming Technical School in Laramie; he moved to Houston in 1966.

In the ‘70s he raced Enduro Motorcycle races for the Trail Riders of Houston and won over 50 trophies. In 1978, Louis opened his own auto body repair shop, Pennington’s Paint and Body in Houston. He later sold his shop and moved his business to Pasadena, Texas.

He was sought out due to his impeccable metal work on classic car; many of the cars he restored were shown in local car shows and earned numerous awards.

Louis loved watching “Wheel of Fortune” and NASCAR on Sundays.

Louis was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Louis Edson Pennington and Ellen Johnston Pennington Deveraux; his step-grandfather, Herbert A. Deveraux; maternal grandparents, Harold Gilmore Barrett and Leora May Watson Barrett; his parents, Lois Eugene Pennington and Bertha Faye Barrett Pennington Deveraux; stepfather, Herbert A. Deveraux Jr.; infant brother, Donald Harold Pennington, infant daughter Katrina Ann Pennington and his brother-in-law, Archie J. Crichton Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Bernice Jennings Pennington of Houston; four children, Richard ”Rick” Alan Pennington of Fort Worth, Deanna “Dede” Lynn Pennington Cook of Clinton, Utah, Amy Renee Pennington Dunn of Torrington and Christy Elaine Pennington of Houston; siblings, Mary Joanne Crichton of Greybull, James Edson “Ed” Pennington of Mesa, Ariz., and Shirley Faye Twenge of Gilbert, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

His ashes will be scattered in the Big Horn Mountains in July 2017.
