Jerry D. Garland, 87, of Beatrice, Neb., formerly of Basin, Wyo., died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, in Lincoln, Neb.
He was born July 14, 1929, in Mulberry, Ark. At a young age, Jerry moved to Glendora, Calif.
Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne from May 1946 to November 1947.
He married Wanda Harper on Sept. 5, 1954. They lived in California until 1968 when they moved to Wyoming. Jerry relocated his business to California in 1987. After he retired, he moved to the Basin, Wyo., area then to Beatrice, Neb., in 2010. He married Vonda (Spargur) Roberts on Feb. 14, 2013.
Survivors include his wife, Vonda Roberts Garland; three sons, Jay Garland and wife, Nancy of Lakewood, Colo., Dave Garland and Kim of Umpire, Ark., and Wes Garland and wife, Tina of Beatrice, Neb.; nine grandchildren: Cameron, Rose, Devin, Mary Jo, Ryan, Gunner, Savanna, Rebecca, and Benjamin; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Billy and Paul; and nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Baby Sue (Fisher) Garland and his first wife, Wanda Harper on June 14, 2001.
The family will greet friends with the body lying in state from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice, Neb. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at Christ Community Church in Beatrice, Neb., with Pastor Dan Martin officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, in the Mount View Cemetery at Basin, Wyo., with Pastor Kent Dempsey officiating.
