A memorial service for Ruth Maloy Sidwell, 96, of New Horizons Care Center in Lovell was held Sept. 9 at Riverside Cemetery in Cody. Ruth, 96, died Sept. 7.
She was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Bisbee, Ariz., the daughter of Marion Delbert and Elizabeth Shurtz Maloy.
She married William Henry “Bill” Sidwell July 3, 1943, in Denver. After the wedding they boarded the train and rode to their new home in northern Wyoming where their first two girls were born. After a stop in Brigham City, Utah, the family relocated to Kermit, Texas, where their second two girls were born.
Following her husband’s death in 1971, Ruth returned to Wyoming where she lived in Buffalo. In 2000, Ruth moved to the Wyoming Pioneer Home in Thermopolis and in 2011, she moved to the New Horizons Care Center.
She was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in the church, many of them related to music.
She was an accomplished seamstress and pianist, an avid reader and a dedicated gardener. She had a quiet dignity about her.
Ruth is survived by a son, Jerry Maloy; four daughters, Nancy Van Fleet, Susan Voss, Charlotte Hinckley and Linda Bull; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
