Buffs overrun Burlington 48-28

By Marlys Good

The Greybull Lady Buffs got a slow start at Burlington Friday night and at the end of the first quarter the score was knotted at nine points each.

From that point on, it was all Greybull. The Buffs outscored the Lady Huskies 18-4 in the second quarter and didn’t look back and ended up winning 48-28.

“Burlington did a great job of not letting us get the ball inside to our posts,” said Coach Jeff Hunt. “They were very physical and we struggled to shoot in the first quarter.”

Greybull warmed up in the second quarter and scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to take the lead and it was never close from that point on.

Kendall Wright scored 18 points. She was joined in double digits by Tatem Edeler with 13 points and Payten Sorensen with 10. Rounding it out were Kendall Stephens with three points and Brittany Ogg and Ky Sorensen with two points each.

The game ended the 2017 portion of the Buffs’ schedule. They jump back into action Jan. 5-6 at the Big Horn Basin Shootout.

Coach Hunt said the tournament is going to be a difficult one. “We play Wind River at noon on the 5th and they are playing pretty well this year. We’ll have to work to get ready for their press and their up-tempo game. They like to run the floor.”

The focus will be on breaking Wind River’s press and forcing the Cougars to play the Buffs’ game.

The Buffs have two more non-conference games, against Tongue River and Big Horn, before their conference opener against Lovell Jan. 19.
