Charlotte Spargur

A memorial services for Charlotte Spargur will be held April 16 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Powell. Charlotte, 86, passed away peacefully March 26 at the Powell Valley Hospital.
She was born May 13, 1931, in Otto, the daughter of George H. and Ellen Peterson Klaus, the seventh of the coupe’s eight children. She received her early schooling at the Stringtown Elementary School and competed her education in Basin.
Charlotte met John Henry Spargur while working at the soda fountain at the Basin Drug Store. They exchanged vows Nov. 13, 1948, in Billings. The couple had four children, Dennis, Lesa, Ava and Laura. The family spent their entire life in the Big Horn basin, making their home in Greybull, Powell and at the Marathon Pipeline camp at Oregon Basin.
Charlotte greatly enjoyed her family and friends. Hosting family gatherings was one of her legacies, along with passing down her famous “Grandma Spargur” recipes. She loved playing cards and a card game with Charlotte was always fun and challenging. Win or lose, she was always gracious.. She was well-loved.
Charlotte was preceded in death by John, her husband of 66 years, and her seven siblings.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Judith Spargur of Cody; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ken and Lesa Spargur Stockwell of Cody, Jim and Ava Spargur Tobin of Powell and John and Laura Spargur Underwood of Rock Springs; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several niece and nephews.
