July 28, 1923 – Aug. 20, 2018

As per his request, there will be no services held for Leverne “Sonny” Rice, 95, who passed away Aug. 20 in Billings, Mont.

Sonny, the son of Ernest and Belva Foulk Rice, was born, raised and received his education in Greybull. He graduated from Greybull High School in 1941.

He married his high school sweetheart, Lillian Eleanor Ennis, in Columbus, Mont., in 1945. The couple raised five children in Greybull: John of Nevada, Bonnie of Arizona, Larry of Ohio, Annita of Nevada and the late Kenneth.

The couple had been married for 45 years when Eleanor passed away in 1990.

Sonny built, owned and operated Rice’s Body Shop in Greybull.

In December 1990, Sonny married Shirley Bugard. Shirley had three daughters, Diana, Sandy and Debie, who became part of the Rice family.

Sonny enjoyed hunting, camping, building a Ferris wheel, child-size race car, trampoline, 16-foot cabin boat, but most of all he enjoyed fixing/repairing automobiles. As a young boy he built model airplanes using balsa wood, glue and paper; some had a wingspan of over 6 feet. He later designed and built a round-wing, radio-controlled plane, the highlight of his airplane designs.

His parents, Ernest and Belva Foulk Rice; his sister, Rialta Rice Snyder, his first wife, Eleanor and his son Kenneth preceded him in death.

In addition to his children, John, Bonnie, Larry and Annita, his wife, Shirley, and his stepdaughters, Diana, Sandy and Debie, Sonny is survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a niece Alta Rae and two nephews, Raleigh and Val Snyder.
