Donald R. Clement passed away Aug. 30, 2018, in Phoenix. He was 79.
Don was born in Greybull, Wyo., to parents George and Luella (Kunkle) Clement. He attended Casper College before moving to California where he soon discovered his lifelong passion for growing crystals.
His introduction to crystal growing began in the Pacific Northwest where he was instrumental in setting up crystal growing furnaces. He continued in this industry working in the San Francisco Bay area for much of his time in California.
In 1963 he was hired by Motorola, Inc. as a crystal growing engineer in the Motorola Semiconductor Products Division where he spent the remainder of his career.
During his 30 years with Motorola he was issued three patents in the field of crystal growing technology before retiring in 1994.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Viola “Punky” Walker.
Blessed with 39 years of marriage, Don is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; nieces Carol Knight and Vickie Johnson and Vickie’s children, Kyle Johnson and Whitney Gebauer.
