Wrestlers open 2019 at county dual tournament

Greybull High School athletes will get their first tests of 2019 when the wrestlers compete at the Big Horn County Dual Championships today (Thursday, Jan. 3) in Cowley and the cagers welcome 2A rival Wind River to Buff Gym for a tripleheader of action Saturday, Jan. 5.

The dual championships were originally set for Friday, Jan. 4, but they had to be moved up a day due to a scheduling conflict.  The first dual will start at 6 p.m. As of Friday morning, the schedule was not available.

G-R begins the year with several of its wrestlers on the latest wyowrestling.com rankings.

Caleb Bottom is ranked seventh at 145, Shawn Erhart is ranked seventh at 160, Tate Clutter is sixth at 182, Dade Greene is sixth at 220 and JeCorey Qualls is third at heavyweight.

Kemmerer is the top ranked 2A team, followed in order by Moorcroft, Cokeville, Thermopolis, Glenrock and Lovell.


The Buffs went into the holidays with a split of the varsity games played Dec. 21 in Burlington.  The girls won big to run their record to 5-3.  The boys weren’t as fortunate, losing by 12 to the reigning 1A champs, to finish December at 1-6.

The Wind River Cougars will be in town Saturday.  JV games start at noon, the varsity girls contest at 1:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 3 p.m.
