Funeral services for Martha Mercer will be held Friday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. at Atwood Family Chapel in Basin. Martha, 94, died July 28 at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Worland.
She was born Jan. 8, 1918, at the Ziesman ranch south of Hyattville, the daughter of Reynold and Martha Kosanke Ziesman. She attended school in Hyattville and Worland and graduated from Worland High School in 1937.
She married Chester Mercer Jan. 1, 1938, and made her home on the Mercer family ranch near Hyattville where she dedicated her life to family and the ranching business. She lived at the ranch until June 2012.
Her mother died when Martha was 11 years old and she became the family caretaker, a role she continued to hold for the rest of her life.
She enjoyed the outdoors, going fishing with Chet and her family, sewing, carpentry, crafts and gardening.
Her husband, Chester Mercer, in 2008; five sisters, Esther Rea, Agnes Allen, Alice Bunnell, Rouene Hanlon and Gretchen Ziesman, and three brothers, Paul, Fred and Reynold Ziesman, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Kelsey of Loganville, Wis., and Brad and Shirley Brown of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ziesman of Lewistown, Mont., one grandson and a great-granddaughter.
