Big things are happening for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Wyoming.
On the heels of a major victory at the last school board meeting, BBBS is now planning its next family event, a “Pictures with the Easter Bunny” fundraiser set for Sunday, April 12 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Shell Community Hall.
There will also be facepainting and balloons, with the money raised during the event going to support the Big Horn County office and the Big Friends after-school program in Greybull.
Children and adults of all ages are welcome to attend.
Last month, the Big Horn County School District No. 3 board of trustees voted in support of a plan to allow GHS BBBS volunteers to earn academic credit for their work with elementary students.
GES continues to work in collaboration with BBBS.
The Big Friends Mentoring Program meets every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school. High school Bigs meet with elementary Littles every Tuesday and Thursday at GES, and every Wednesday at the Herb Asp Community Center.
BBBS also hosts family nights and match activities on a regular basis.
BBBS serves over 200 youth, ages 5 through 17, in Washakie, Big Horn, Park and Hot Springs counties. BBBS has three types of mentoring programs: community-based, school-based and site-based. National research has shown that the shared experiences between Bigs and Littles have a direct and lasting impact on children’s lives.
Families interested in obtaining more information about BBBS operations in Big Horn County or getting pictures with the Easter Bunny may contact Joyce Kitchell, the BBBS program coordinator for Big Horn County, at 765-9303.
