David Bernard McCune
June 20, 1949 - July 4, 2009
David Bernard McCune, 60, of Basin, died Saturday, July 4 at his home with his beloved wife Ann at his side.
A visitation was held at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from noon - 7 p.m.
A visitation will be held at Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance, Neb., on Thursday, July 9 from 4-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Bates-Gould Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. in David’s hometown of Alliance, Neb. with Father James Heithoff officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Alliance and graveside military rites will be performed.
David McCune was born June 20, 1949, in Alliance, the son of Dee and Dorothy O’Keefe McCune. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1967. David served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division and toured in the Vietnam War.
He married Marcia Zimmerman in 1972 and is survived by their two children.
He was employed as a conductor for the BNSF Railroad for 33 years. Since his retirement in 2005, David and his wife Ann have enjoyed traveling. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He kept busy by raising a few head of cattle and repairing fence after the cattle‘s frequent escapes.
Dave’s laugh, infectious smile and penetrating blue eyes will be missed by many surviving family members: his wife, Ann Brundage of Basin; his mother, Dorothy O’Keefe McCune of Alliance; his daughter, Heather Ash (Fred) of Hemingford, Neb.; his son, Nathan McCune of Sheridan, Wyo.; four brothers, Dan (JoAnne) of Cowley, Martin (Diane) of McCook, Neb., Patrick of Baker City, Ore., and Paul (Debra) of Cedar Lake, Ind.; three grandchildren, Trever and Tanner Benge and Kamryn Ash, all of Hemingford, Neb.; eight nephews and nieces and several O’Keefe and Percival relatives.
His death was preceded by his father, Dee McCune, and his sister, Deanne McCune Ellis, whose two sons, Dan and Michael Ellis were adopted by David’s parents.
David lived life his way, enjoying it day by day. He was loved by many and he will be missed.
Atwood family Funeral Directors, Inc. of Basin and Bates-Gould Funeral Home of Alliance, Neb. are in charge of arrangements.
