The Hands Across the Saddle team roping was a favorable one for the out-of-towners.
Doyle Gellerman, a cowboy from Idaho, teamed with Willy Gould of Meeteetse to win the lucrative open-five steer competition Saturday at the Wilford Brimley Arena east of Greybull.
Gellerman and Gould pocketed $2,080, topping a 16-team field with a time of 50.13 seconds.
Gould was also on the second-place team, joining forces with Casey Good to post a 68.47 and win $1,560.
Third, and $1,040, went to the team of J.T. Collingwood and Shawn Billy, who finished with a 72.67.
Scott and J.T. Collingwood rounded out the top four, finishing in 72.99 seconds to make $520.
Seventy-two teams entered the five-steer drawpot competition.
Lewis Fields of Utah and J.T. Collingwood won it with a 50.6, pocketing $835.
Gary Fales and Shawn Billy were second, in 53.02. They made $691.
Kayleen Chaffee and Travis Greimsman (64.27) made $547 for placing third, fourth and $403 went to Cole Francis and Tate Edeler with a 71.12, fifth and $259 to Chad Hill and Casey Nelson with a 75.06, and sixth and $144 went to Bob Herman and Sam Good with a 75.59.
A total of $8,079 in prize money was award. Brimley sweetened the pot for the five-steer, contributing $2,000 up front to attract the region’s top competitors.
