LaRae Susanne (Gibler) Cummings
Oct. 3, 1953 - Jan. 14, 2010
Lifetime Basin resident LaRae Susanne (Gibler) Cummings, age 56, passed away at Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings, Mont., on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.
LaRae was born Oct. 3, 1953, in Greybull, the daughter of John S. and Marjorie (Osborn) Gibler. As a child LaRae spent summers with her Crusch family in Montana riding horses, going to rodeos, doing the ranch scene and enjoying new friends.
LaRae was raised in Basin and entered kindergarten in the then new Basin Elementary, graduating from Basin High School in 1972. The class was cautioned not to toss their caps in the air. That has become part of the graduating process beginning in 1972.
LaRae attended the Bryman Dental School in Salt Lake City, Utah following graduation. She and two friends spent four years in the San Diego, Calif., area before returning to Basin to put her dental assisting skills to work with Dr. Eugene Doerr for the next 26 years.
LaRae was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed playing softball. LaRae loved animals, horseback riding, tubing down the Big Horn Canal and spending time with her many friends throughout the years. LaRae was her father’s hunting and fishing partner. She never forgave “DAD” for knocking her “BIG” fish off the line when fishing with Bob and Dad at Upper Sunshine Reservoir at Meeteetse. To know LaRae was to love her.
LaRae married Robert H. Cummings on March 13, 1997, at Deadwood, S.D.
LaRae attended the First Baptist Church in Basin. She was an active member of the Basin 4-H clubs, the American Legion Junior Auxiliary in her youth, the Basin Eagles Aerie 3086 Auxiliary and the Ladies of the Scarlet Hat organization in Greybull.
LaRae is survived by her husband, Robert Cummings of Basin; parents John and Dorothy Gibler of Basin, Marjorie Crusch and step-father Larry of Billings, Mont.; two brothers, Craig Gibler of Casper and Marvin (Kelli) Crusch of Park City, Mont.; four sisters, Johnna (Pat) Ely of Basin, Amy (Bill) Brown Susanne Flores of Billings, Mont. and Stephany Sundheim of Nashua, Mont.; sisters-in-law, Pat (Scott) Farmer, Susan Saunders of Gillette; many loving nieces and nephews and her special pets Jasper and Tommy.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist church in Basin, Wyo., with Pastor Kent Dempsey officiating. Following the service, a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the church gymnasium.
A memorial fund has been established in LaRae’s name at Security State Bank, Box 531, Basin, WY 82410, with proceeds to go to the Humane Society of Park County in Cody or to a charity of donor’s choice.
Atwood Funeral Directors, Inc., is in charge of arrangements.
