Melvin Roy Winterholler

Funeral services for Melvin Roy Winterholler were held Feb. 22 at Grace Lutheran Church in Greybull. Winterholler, 77, died Feb. 17 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette.
He was born April 18, 1932, in Sheridan, the son of William and Margaret Lenz Winterholler. The family moved to Lovell when he was young, and he attended schools in Lovell, including the old Lutheran School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1955, he returned to Lovell.
Mr. Winterholler married Betty Jean Hallcroft July 20, 1955, in Laurel, Mont. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Basin. He was a carpenter and building contractor for 25 years and was well known for his skill and the quality of his work. In 1982 he went to work with Big Horn County School District No. 4 where he worked until his retirement in 1997.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Marion Tanner Post 29 of the American Legion in Basin. He also served on the board of trustees of School District No. 4.
Mr. Winterholler was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in 2007; infant daughter Carol Ann; brothers Bert, Edwin and Ralph; sisters Rebecca Basnett and Sylvia Spaulding, and his grandson Benjamin Roice.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Janet and Terry Tharp, Sherry Mowery and Michael and Coleen Winterholler, all of Gillette; and Peggy and Ron Lishner of Littleton, Colo.; his sister, Virginia Fink of Lovell, and eight grandchildren.
Burial with full military graveside rites was at Mount View Cemetery in Basin.
A memorial fund in Melvin’s name has been established at Security State Bank, Box 531, Basin, WY 82410. Proceeds will go to the Big Horn County Library Foundation to benefit its Wyoming Library Endowment Challenge.
