The Lady Buff junior varsity girls held on against the Tongue River Lady Eagles for the first quarter Thursday night but then went down without a whimper and lost 54-26 in their season closer.
The Lady Buffs shot 41 percent from the field compared to the 37 percent by the Lady Eagles, but  factor in the Buffs’ 29 field goal attempts versus the 62 put up by the Eagles and therein lies the difference. The young Buffs were a power on the defensive boards, topping Tongue River 18-15, but fell short on the offensive end, losing that battle, 16-3.
Seven Buffs grabbed rebounds led by the five apiece by Sarah Bockman and Alex Powers. Michaela Jolley chipped in with four, Michaela Denniston, three, and Lindsay Kern, two. Hunter Grant and Morgan Flitner were both credited with a rebound.
In the scoring department it was Denniston with seven points followed by Jolley and Powers with six each, three by Bockman and two apiece by Flitner and Kern.
In overall stats on the year, the Buffs held their own on the defensive boards, with a total of 330 compared to their opponents’ 317.   Powers, with 108 total, averaged nearly six per game and Kern four per game.
Scoring wise, the Buffs were outscored 709- 557 with Jolley scoring 122 of those and Powers 88. The Buffs also had more steals than opponents, 240 to 224, with Jolley grabbing 49, Jessica Hunt 42 and Kern 37.
