Memorial services for Dale Edward Chapman of Basin were held March 2 at Grace Fellowship Church in Greybull. Dale, 63, died Feb. 25 at South Big Horn County Hospital.
He was born Nov. 15, 1946, in Cody, the son of Robert Dale and Wilhelmina Wegner Chapman. Dale served in the United States Navy from 1967-73 and was honorably discharged. He married Marena Lee Gentry Feb. 8, 1967, in Yuma, Ariz.
After his discharge, Dale worked as a backhoe operator until 1974. From 1975 - 1999 he worked for S&S Road Boring out of Oklahoma City as part owner and heavy equipment operator.
Dale and Marena moved to the Big Horn Basin in May of 2001. They made their home in Basin. He owned and operated Smokin’ Okie BBQ from 2001 until the present.
He was a member of the American Legion Marion Tanner Post 29 of Basin.
His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Marena Chapman of Basin; one son, Tad Robert Chapman of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Tera Riné Chapman Pelfrey of Cody; his sister, Carolyn Lea Chapman Olin of Greybull, and three grandchildren.
A memorial in Dale’s name has been established at Security State Bank, Box 531, Basin, WY 82410. Proceeds will go to the Grace Fellowship Church.
