Babe Ruth team takes 3 of 4
by nathan oster
With three wins in four starts last week, the Greybull Babe Ruth team continues to sail along as the season enters its final weeks.
After their June 16 game against Cowley was washed away by rain, the Babe Ruthers jumped on Otto on Friday night, winning the opener 14-9 and the nightcap 8-6.
Greybull had two big innings in game one, pushing across seven runs in the first and seven more in the third in support of the pitching of Zack Zeller.
In game two, Greybull built an 8-1 lead, but then had to hang on late, as Otto tallied one in the fourth and four in the fifth to pull to within two.
The final out of the game was recorded on the basepaths, as third baseman Logan Jensen tagged out an Otto runner who was caught in a pickle after trying to score on a hit to left field, leaving two runners on base.
In the Cowley doubleheader, Greybull had to rally to win game one. Trailing 3-0, Greybull put up five runs in the bottom of the third and then blanked Cowley in the top of the fourth to seal the deal.
Chris Ogg led off the third with a walk, Ryan Sylvester followed with a single, and both came in to score on a booming double by Calder Forcella, which made it 3-2.
Luke Zeller added a run-scoring hit to tie it — and later, Payton Gonzalez knocked in Logan Jensen (who had walked) and Brendon Laird (who had singled) with the go-ahead runs.
Cowley came back to win the second game by a 9-3 count. The visitors put up three in the first and put it away with a five-spot in the third.
Calder Forcella knocked in two of Greybull’s runs, while Luke Zeller had the other RBI.
